County appoints mosquito control director

Marcus McDonough, a US Navy veteran and entomologist, has been named director of Mosquito Control of Volusia County, effective January 10.

Mr. McDonough is replacing Suzanne Bartlett, who retired in October after serving in the Volusia district since 2014.

He has 15 years of experience as an entomologist in the control of ornamental, urban and vector pests. He was a kindergarten inspector and compliance officer for the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. Mr. McDonough also served as an entomologist for the US Navy.

He is a certified training specialist and certified pest control applicator from the Department of Defense. He earned a bachelor’s and master’s degrees in entomology from Purdue University.

County appoints deputy director of public works

The Volusia district has appointed Arden Fontaine as deputy director of public works.

Mr. Fontaine has worked in the district for 20 years, starting in April 2001 as a specialist in geographic information systems for public works. Since then he has worked as a special project coordinator, activity project manager and operations manager. He was previously a land registry manager in the Lake County GIS division.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in applied mathematics from the University of Connecticut and a master’s degree in geography from the University of Memphis.

Leadership class

The Ormond Beach Chamber of Commerce Leadership Class XVIII is now accepting applications.

The program, which began in 2003, consists of nine half-day sessions with a response course, an introductory session and a class and alumni reception, a city government session, a health and wellness session, a historical tour, an economic development session, a non-profit session , public safety meeting, closing and reception.

The application deadline is March 1st. Classes start on March 26th.

The expo is presented by the City and Chamber of Commerce of Port Orange South Daytona.

This business fair and networking event is aimed at chamber members and residents of the Shores and adjacent communities. It’s free and open to the public.

Local businesses, restaurants, household products, and personal services are featured at the expo, which features demonstrations, samples, freebies, and refreshments.
