Good news for Queensland’s honeybees
Queensland beekeepers who have been locked out of some national parks in the course of ongoing negotiations have received good news.
The Queensland government yesterday announced changes to the law to “allow a 20-year extension to allow beekeeping in national parks to continue until 2044”.
Queensland Beekeepers Association Secretary of State Jo Martin said it was very welcome news for the industry.
“If we don’t have healthy honeybees, we simply don’t have a mechanism to help the Queensland agricultural sector grow horticultural production,” she said.
“It is particularly important that when we are not in these beautiful national parks, we have a serious problem in hand.”
