Lucknow sees an increase in dengue cases
Lucknow, October 14 (IANS) At least 25 cases of dengue have been reported in Lucknow, the highest one-day increase in the capital, Uttar Pradesh.
The new cases reported on Wednesday included 12 women, 10 men and three teenagers.
Six patients had to be hospitalized because their condition was serious, doctors said, adding that their platelet counts were low.
Other patients have been sent back after medication and are recovering at home.
Although most of the new cases were reported from high-number areas such as Aliganj, NK Road, Chinhat, Indira Nagar, Turiyaganj, Aishbagh, and Chinhat, some were recorded in new locations in Maal and Kakori.
Poor hygiene and water retention are believed to be the main reasons for the rise in dengue cases.
The female Aedes aegypti mosquito – the carrier of the dengue virus – lays eggs in fresh water that has accumulated in various places in and around households.
Health officials said people shouldn’t panic and stick to preventive measures. They also appealed to the citizen authorities to start a cleanliness campaign.
The cases reported on Wednesday have raised the dengue count in the city to 575 since January this year.
Of these, 495 (86 percent) cases were reported with an average of 12 cases daily in the past 43 days.
Chief Medical Officer Manoj Agrawal said: “We are implementing extensive mosquito control measures, especially in areas with high case numbers. In addition, as part of the Infectious Disease Control Program, health workers go door-to-door to raise awareness and distribute medical kits. “
Larvae have now been found in 27 homes after scanning 2,713 locations in Gomti Nagar, Balaganj, Mallahi Tola, Nishatganj and other locations.
