NM Dept. of Agriculture plans free pesticide disposal event in Deming
LAS CRUCES, NM – The New Mexico Department of Agriculture (NMDA) is hosting pesticide disposal events in Deming and Santa Rosa on Tuesday, October 19 and Thursday, October 21. The Deming event will take place in the South Parking Lot of the Southwest New Mexico State Fairgrounds on Raymond Reed Blvd. 4300 while the Santa Rosa event will be held at the New Mexico Department of Transportation office at 318 West Black Street. Both events take place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
These events are open to agricultural producers, licensed pesticide dealers, pest control companies, golf courses, farmers, ranchers, homeowners, and any other member of the community who need to safely dispose of pesticides. Participation in these events is free. All types of pesticides, treated seeds or rinse water are collected.
Held multiple times across the state, pesticide disposal events provide the agribusiness, pest control industry, and the general public with the ability to properly dispose of unwanted pesticides. Most recently, NMDA sponsored a pesticide disposal event in Portales.
“We had a successful event in Portales last spring,” said Stephen Baca, associate director of NMDA’s pesticide compliance department. “We hope that we can repeat this with our upcoming autumn events. The disposal of pesticides should be handled in a safe and proper manner and therefore these events are critical. We want to reach as many people as possible in the state with this service and hope that homeowners in Deming, Santa Rosa and the surrounding area will take advantage of this opportunity. “
