Would you like a page of rats with this?

Popeye’s site is under fire (so much so that it closed) after a video by a former employee went viral showing a line of rats in the kitchen.

TikTok user Ricardo Land (@ blaqazzrick01) posted a two-minute video (which has now been viewed more than two million times) that started with him standing in front of Popeye’s in Washington, DC before hitting viewers in and led through the restaurant.

“Look at this shit here,” he says before opening the kitchen door. “Are you ready?”

As soon as he turns on the light, you can immediately see a rat scurrying across the floor. Then he pans the camera to the wall, where at least a dozen rats begin to climb the wall.

“Oh my god,” Land whispers. “Look at her!”

He starts beating around to get more rats out of their hiding place and to run around more on the floor.

“You still love Popeye’s chicken?” Land asks when he turns the camera back to him and speaks to another employee, who says he saw about 15 rats the night before.

Annoyed customers naturally went into the comments.

“If you’ve seen 15, there are another 30 you haven’t seen,” one user said creepily.

“They’re night shift workers preparing for the first shift,” joked another.

Others considered Land a “hero” and thanked him for keeping the food in DC “safe”.

“You have saved many lives by posting this,” wrote one man. “Can you imagine if people [ate] there and got sick? Thanks very much.”

But the health department didn’t take the matter lightly.

The New York Post reported in a tweet showing a photo on the front door of DC Popeye that the restaurant “has been closed until further notice for a District of Columbia food violation,” which “poses an immediate health hazard. for the public. “

“Food safety and cleanliness are a top priority at Popeye’s. This restaurant has been temporarily closed and the franchisee who owns and operates this location is taking appropriate steps to address the issue, ”a chicken chain representative told Inside Edition.

However, the former Popeye employees are now under fire for unveiling the restaurant.

Land posted a follow-up to TikTok titled “If They Demonize You Because You’re Doing Right,” shows a GoFundMe page that reveals that he has been suspended from the restaurant for exposing the infestation.
