INDIANA (WTWO / WAWV) – It’s that time again, the time when dreaded stink bugs crawl into houses and become annoying.

According to Tabby Flinn, a spokeswoman for Purdue Extension, there are actually several different types of stink bugs that are currently making homes in Indiana. The biggest culprit: an invasive species originally native to Asia called the “brown marbled stink bug”.

Flinn said these bugs go into homes because they want to find a warm place to hibernate, but that there are several ways they can be dealt with.

“There are many different repellent pesticides that you can apply yourself,” said Flinn. “You can call a pest control company and they can treat your entire wall if you’re worried.”

She added that the beetles are often spotted on the south and west facing sides of a house after entering through open cracks and crevices on the outside.

“If you have cracks that you can fill, it’s best to fill those cracks,” added Flinn.

According to Flinn, the bugs don’t bite and don’t breed in your home.
