The Williamsburg complex is taking action after tenant tells 10 On Your Side that she got sick from cockroaches

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (WAVY) – Within hours of 10 On Your Side visiting a woman’s home and administration office for rampant cockroaches, notices were posted on affected units that they would be fumigated next week, according to Resident Jennifer Johnson.

“Until you showed up, I hadn’t seen much,” she said in a follow-up interview on Friday afternoon.

Johnson says she has complained to both the management of her Regency complex in Longhill, Williamsburg, and her corporate office in Charlottesville. 10 On Your Side went to the local office on Longhill Road around noon Thursday. An employee declined to comment, but Johnson said a few hours later notices were posted on the doors of the affected units that the pest control would be fumigated on November 10th. A call to Seminole Trail Management LLC on Friday afternoon was not immediately returned.

Sick of cockroaches, Williamsburg woman trying to reimburse medical expenses, rent and lost income

Johnson fell ill after dealing with the cockroaches at her apartment in Regency, Longhill, and her doctor described allergy symptoms from cockroach dust and cockroach waste: stomach ache, sore throat, and cough. Roaches darted around her kitchen, into her toaster, and onto her bed.

We spoke to her neighbor, Sister Mary Nwachukwu, who lives next door. She said she also had big problems with cockroaches.

Johnson is encouraged by the management’s decision to hire a professional to help control the beetles.

She began collecting and bagging the bugs after seeing 28 in a single day. Besides getting sick, she freaked out from the insecurity of her own home. She hasn’t spent a night there in almost two weeks.

Johnson is happy to see management are doing something for residents even though she plans to leave for health reasons of her own.

Johnson says she will use our insurance coverage in combination with her doctor’s letter when she goes to court to try to reclaim $ 9,000 in rent, lost income, and medical bills.
